iomart Hosting announced as major sponsor of Social Media Mafia MediaCamps

iomart hosting is delighted to announce that it has signed a sponsorship deal with Social Media Mafia the company behind the successful MediaCamp series of events.

Social Media Mafia started life as the networking initiative ACHUB, founded in 2006 by internet entrepreneur Chris Hambly, with the mission of conducting academic research, events and facilitation concerning all things social media related. The ACHUB was the incubator for a whole variety of events.

Early in 2008 the ACHUB was re-branded to Social Media Mafia and has continued with its mission and commercial activity in both the UK and Internationally across the USA and Europe.

MediaCamps are one day events attended by approximately 75 people from the new media spectrum. Each event attracts advertisers, agencies, start-ups, game developers, consultants, bloggers and those simply interested in learning more about the industry.

Topics explored at previous MediaCamps have ranged from specialist sessions such as the ping co-efficient, new media marketing, use of SEO for reputation management, to more general interest areas such as podcasting, blogging and effect use of Twitter.

Replicating a chat room or forum set-up, MediaCamp rejects the traditional ‘chalk and talk’ style of presentation style using discursive user-led workshops instead. This enables participants to derive their own learning and understanding from the topic being discussed.

Chris Hambly states: “Everyone who attends is treated as an equal. In the relatively young field of new media we find the MediaCamp participants may know just as much, or may be able to contribute in a dynamic way. Knowledge is the focal point, not a particular speaker."
