iomart hosting's 3 tiered monitoring service

Iomart's monitoring platform is based on Nagios open-source software, which means it's highly adaptable and can be tailored to our each of our client's needs. iomart offers a tiered approach to server monitoring, the three levels of monitoring are as follows...

Tier 1

Tier 1 monitoring is a basic ICMP ping and a single instance port monitor (for example if the server is being used to run a web site then port 80 will be monitored for a response). If a response if detected from both queries then no alerts will be displayed to our NOC Support teams.

Tier 2

Tier 2 monitoring is builds on the tier 1 monitoring offering, but also includes monitoring for CPU load, RAM and Hard Disk usage. iomart hosting will also setup an additional port monitor and a single URL monitor (we will configure the monitoring platform to look for a static string on the web site, in the event the monitoring platform does not see this string then an alarm will be raised)

Standard port monitoring will recognise that the web port is open and operational but this will not tell you if the web application is delivering the web site content. URL monitoring will look for a pre-defined string within the web site for example, and if this string is not detected the an alert will be sent to our NOC Support teams and they will action a response as required

Tier 3

Tier 3 is iomarts bespoke monitoring solution; Tier 3 includes all the services that are mentioned in Tier 1 and 2 but also has the addition of historic CPU, RAM and Hard drive usage and Ethernet bandwidth monitoring. Iomart can also add the following additional monitoring services...

• Server Environment status (temperatures, fan speeds, hardware issues)
• Web Analytics (iomart will install AW Stats, if more in-depth web analytics results are required the additional software and costs will be required)
• Client Network SNMP Bandwidth Stats
• RDB Application Monitoring
